Grizzly: Taku River
The Taku River starts in the north west corner of British Columbia and eventually flows to the sea near the Alaskan capital of Juneau. The river is rich in salmon runs and provides an important corridor for wildlife through the otherwise impenetrable mountains of the coast range. The B.C. government is under pressure to reopen a large mine development in the Taku watershed that environmentalists fear will seriously alter the grizzly habitat and pollute the downstream waters.
